Paracord – das Seil, das mehr kann als nur gut aussehen

Paracord – the rope that does more than just look good

If you've ever seen a hand-braided collar and wondered why so many manufacturers swear by Paracord, here's the answer.

🧵 What exactly is Paracord?

Paracord is originally a parachute cord – yes, really. It was developed for military parachutes and was primarily designed to be light, tear-resistant, and reliable. These very properties are what still make it so popular today – not just in the military, but also in the outdoor sector and, indeed, for dog leashes and collars.

The designation "Paracord 550" means, by the way, that the cord can withstand up to 550 pounds (about 250 kg) of tensile force. And that's with a weight of only a few grams per meter.

💪 Why Paracord is so durable

Paracord consists of a core of several fine nylon threads, surrounded by a braided outer layer. This combination makes the material extremely robust, dimensionally stable, and tear-resistant.

It stretches only minimally, hardly frays, and remains stable even after years – provided it is treated reasonably well. Even sun, cold, or moisture have little effect on Paracord.

🐕 Why Paracord is perfect for collars

Paracord doesn't just look cool; it also has practical advantages, which are particularly important for dog collars:

  • High tensile strength: It easily withstands even strong dogs.

  • Comfortable to wear: It lies softly on the neck, doesn't cut in, and is still stable.

  • Easy care: If it gets dirty, simply put it in a laundry bag and into the washing machine.

  • Lightweight: Your dog carries hardly any weight, even with wide collars.

  • Variety of colors: There are hundreds of colors and patterns, perfect for individual designs.

And because Paracord is braided or knotted, every collar is unique.
